Kurty's Couch - PRIDE Edition
Well well well… here it is.. KURTY’S COUCH.. a new BLOG for Hillcrest Social.
You might be thinking why is KURTY writing a blog? I have often asked myself that question..
Ultimately it came down to this. Will Z and the creators of Hillcrest Social have been friends of mine for a long time. We literally grew up in this community. They have asked me numerous times to do this to share my perspective about life, my travels and the LGBTQ community. I kept saying.. ya ya ya, ill do it, and then it never happened.
I have another travel blog that I sporadically write and post photos in but nothing consistent. So, I finally took the offer and I am excited to share myself with this community with the goal of getting to know each other a little differently then by just seeing each other in the clubs.
First off let me introduce myself… my name is KURTY.. Some of you know me as Dj dirty KURTY. 15 years ago I moved from San Francisco to San Diego. Some of you would think for many reasons, maybe surf, maybe weather, maybe DJ’ing; but really it was with a girl and to play soccer. I knew no one, had no friends here and I had no idea what San Diego was like. Also, the girl I moved with, decided to stay in SF. So I started playing soccer and met friends through that community. I also started DJ’ing and going out in the LGBTQ community.
The San Diego LGBTQ community was small back then, and I actually was worried coming from San Francisco that this city would be too small for me. But over the course of a few years, I met so many amazing and beautiful people. Most of those people are still in my life now. I now have hundreds of friends that I met through DJ’ing and this community. There are so many things I want to share with you and I am excited to continue this BLOG, but today, the week of San Diego PRIDE, I am going to talk about why the LGBTQ PRIDE community is important to me.
I have been out since I was 21. Over the course of my lifetime, I have had the opportunity to DJ and attend over 20 different Pride festivals in 4 different countries. I sense a feeling that is mutual everywhere. Regardless of what is happening in the world, or in people’s lives, everyone comes out to celebrate being themselves. Pride represents for me an opportunity to express who we really are and be surrounded by people, friends, and family who LOVE us for the individuals we are and the differences we bring to the world. Especially now with a lot more hate coming to the forefront, this is a time to realize how amazing this community is and be grateful for what we have and the people we are surrounded by. PRIDE brings LOVE to the forefront and continually reminds us to celebrate each other.
So…. HAPPY San Diego PRIDE EVERYONE!! If you are out and about celebrating, below are the events I am DJ’ing this weekend. Please come out and say hello!! I appreciate all the LOVE and support I feel from this community!!!!
Stay tuned for more Kurty's Couch, I'll be back after Pride. Xoxoxo KURTY
